Microdermabrasion, in the last ten years, has become the number one treatment performed in the skin industry. The procedure can be a highly profitable one; YOU DO THE MATH!! YOUR initial investment has the potential to be recovered in only approximately 10 to 15 treatments. OTHER COSTS YOU MAY HAVE, Crystal: A single treatment of the face and the neck uses 1/3 lb. of Aluminum Oxide Crystals. Due to our low-cost crystals, each treatment will cost you $1.50(3 cases/90 lbs.of Aluminum Oxide is $270). Plastic Tips, Metal Tips: Most Plastic Tips are meant to be disposable although many salons and some physician’s offices, to be economical, simply sanitize and reuse them. The operator has to decide whether to dispose of them or sanitize them. They are $1.50 each. Or you may use  metal tips . Each one costs $15. Filters: After every 50 treatments it is recommended you clean or replace the Filter(s). They are $10.00  to $15.00 each depending on the Microdermabrasion unit you are using. Why Nu Derm Microdermabrasion? Anti-Clogging button (for troubleshooting): In years of selling Microdermabrasion we have noticed one of the biggest concerns of buyers is " What if the machine clogs up?" The unit, by itself, does not create clogging; the quality and purity of the Aluminum Oxide crystals can be one factor. The other is when moisture comes into contact with the crystals and causes the crystals to clump together. With the anti-clog button, you are able to flush out the system. However those companies whose machines do not have this feature will answer "The reason we do not have an anti-clog button is because our machine does not clog!!!" Training & Loaner: We can offer one-on-one training for half the day by a licensed esthetician at our facility or yours, only if you live within 100 miles of Irvine, California(Cost $250.). Loaner; once again this service is available to residents of Southern California (However there is a fee of $150 for the temporary replacement unit as long as your unit is being repaired.) Filter: Unlike some other company's filters on other machines which need to be replaced every few treatments, with ours, we recommend you replace them between every 50 treatments.   Q & A LED Light Therapy   What Conditions can the LED Treat?   There is a large array of conditions which LED has been shown to be very effective in treating. Among those are: Rosacea skin flushing, which is dramatically reduced and calmed usually within a few treatments. Helps reduce or eliminate the appearance of sun spots and redness. Helps in the elimination of P-acne, reducing facial blemishes, inflammation, and redness. Helps in the flattening of stretch marks and the appearance of superficial scars. Aids in the circulation in superficial tissues reducing the appearance of cellulite. Accelerates skin repair and soothes sunburn. Reduces and eases the pain of injuries.   The following list details some of the general benefits which can be obtained:   Regenerating and stimulating collagen. (Red LED Light is known to help stimulate collagen production over %200 within 24 hours.) Minimizing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Reducing the appearances of crow’s feet. Clearing blemishes. Improving the appearance of skin tone. Increasing circulation. Lessening of pore size. Stimulating and activating the metabolic process in skin cells.   What are LED’s and how are they used?   LED’s- Light Emitting Diodes- provide infrared (invisible to the eye) and visible red light that helps the cells of the human tissue, the same way sunlight helps the cells of plants, process and utilize food and air, into usable energy. The LED’s are programmed to change frequency and patterns of length to offer the most beneficial treatment according to the patients needs and desired effects. LED technology has long been touted as being an aide in wound treatment; the reduction in appearance of wrinkles, scars, and cellulite; and pain management through it’s use of deep-penetrating warmth and cell metabolism, and has been the topic of research by NASA for space utilization, medical college research studies, and even physical fitness training facilities everywhere. Most current medical responses to skin aging currently involve invasive, painful, and often very expensive means of correction. LED offers a non-invasive approach that can be used regularly to reduce the appearance of the problem areas that these extensive surgeries and laser-treatments are being used to correct. LED therapy stimulates the release of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is the major carrier of energy to all cells driving the chemical reaction of the cell.     Is the LED safe to use and operate?   Yes, the LED is entirely safe to use and to operate. LED therapy is an FDA-approved cosmetic procedure that is gentle, painless, quite safe and effective. Treatments are non-invasive and non-abrasive, yet the light penetrates deeply into skin’s tissue. It is safe for any age, color, or skin-type, and can be used on any area of the body, with the exception of the eyes.   LED Light Therapy is NOT RECOMMENDED if you suffer from:   Epilepsy  - certain frequencies of light can trigger epileptic seizures. Pregnancy  -  studies haven’t conclusively determined the risk to pregnant women and their babies, and is therefore not recommended. Thyroid conditions – not recommended for those that suffer from thyroid conditions. Not recommended for those who are photo-allergic, or are taking medication that has shown to cause light sensitivities (such as Tetracycline).   Is the treatment dangerous to the eyes?   We recommend that you do not stare directly into the LED Light. Goggles are provided to ensure comfort during treatment.   Is it possible to combine LED treatments with other procedures or products?   Absolutely. The LED treatment can be used alone or with other skin care treatments. Many aestheticians and physicians have used LED in combination with other skincare modalities and found them to be very complimentary.   Does it dry skin out?   No. In fact, you will notice that within days of an LED treatment your skin will become more hydrated, firm and smooth.   Is the treatment painful?   Not in the least. On the contrary, it is comfort-producing and relaxing, much like spending time in the sunlight. It is a very gentle treatment, quite painless and non-invasive. Additionally, there is no real “down-time” after your session.    How long does treatment take?   Each unit is preprogrammed with easy to understand settings- as easy to operate as pushing a button- which provide the patient with a 20-minute session best suited for the individual’s target area.  This is the recommended duration of one session for most conditions. Deep pain relief applications will generally take longer, perhaps two consecutive sessions.   How is the skin prepared for the treatment? For best results, use the unit only on clean skin.  It is also recommended that one Cleanse and exfoliate skin before use (exfoliating (sloughing) the skin helps the LED light to penetrate deeper into skin). When should I use the LED device?   Varying frequencies of LED light give the skin the necessary aid to reduce  signs of aging. Patients with recent surgical wounds or trauma can use LED for accelerated healing and scar reduction post surgery. Patients with skin discolorations and acne can use LED as frequently as they desire. Some patients with diabetes or other light/heat sensitive ailments may require attention to avoid over-heated skin but can still benefit from the device.   How long until I can expect visible results?   Due to the variety of skin-types and the variation in damage to skin some will see immediate improvement and others will require further treatments. The majority of clients will see marked results in around four treatments. With some clients even one treatment will have a visible freshening and rejuvenating effect. Treatments are progressive and have cumulative benefits so we recommend a schedule of 10 sessions to obtain the maximum demonstrable results from this therapy. Generally speaking, those with Rosacea skin will experience a calming effect after 6 or so treatments. Collagen production and anti-aging may take up to 4 weeks before the improvements can be plainly seen. Pain and wounds heal faster with each treatment (30 minutes a day, at least). Skin texture and tone improve on the very first treatment.   Is it easy to operate?   It is simplicity itself. It is almost as easy as flicking a switch. Operation of the therapy device requires no certification and all instructions and operating functions are clearly defined by the literature and the device itself. What is the difference between the Blue and Red LED Lights? The difference is in the wavelength at which the LED Light is emitted, measured by Nanometers, or “nm”. Each color has its own range of efficacy against certain skin conditions. LED BLUE LIGHT, approximately 400 to 485 nm, has been shown to be effective in treating the following conditions: P. acnes is known as the causative agent of acne. Porphyrin, a compound generated by the P. Acnes bacteria, is photosensitive and reacts to 405 – 440 nm (blue) light Blue Light Therapy is an alternative for patients who do not respond well to antibiotic therapy or who develop problematic side-effects   LED RED LIGHT, approximately 600 to 900 nm, is very useful in the treatment of many different conditions among which are:   Reduces the appearance of aging and damaged skin, such as fine lines, wrinkles, and superficial hyper pigmentation Temporarily relieves minor muscle and joint pain, stiffness, and relaxes muscle tissue Rosacea skin flushing is calmed within a few treatments. Improves skin texture, even causing spots to fade.   Who needs and can benefit from LED Light Therapy?   As we all inevitably age, our skin looses some of its ability to heal and reconstruct itself. Components such as collagen and elastin- necessary in maintaining the physical appearance and vitality of skin- and reduced productivity of aged and damaged cells- scar tissue,  toxin and waste build-up (acne, wrinkles, sunspots, hyper-pigmentation, etc.)- Which increase the appearance of physical flaws and characteristic skin discoloration and texture can become overwhelming. Varying frequencies of low-level infrared and visible red light give the skin the necessary aid to reduce these, and many other, signs of aging.  These wavelengths of light can also help reduce scarring, and patients requiring pain management and wound healing, of all shapes, sizes, age, and colors of skin. Some patients with heat/light sensitivity from medications or medical problems may require means to reduce heat to the skin but can still use the LED system since the heat output is very minimal.   What are the business advantages in adding the LED Light Therapy unit to my practice or clinic?   They are NUMEROUS! This is non-invasive, non-irritating, out-patient therapy which is entirely safe and produces demonstrable results. This therapy represents the cutting edge of Skin-care technology and is fast becoming a leader in the very latest modalities in conditioning the skin and complexion. The procedure is entirely painless and the patient can even be left alone with the hands-free unit for whatever length session has been prescribed. It frees up the clinician or practitioner to get on with other tasks, scheduling, or other treatment set-ups as desired. There are no injections, no side-effects, and no effective “down-time” involved. Virtually anyone, of any skin color or type, can benefit from the LEDtherapy.       For more information or additional details on our classes in S. What is Microdermabrasion? Microdermabrasion is the most revolutionary new skin restoration process. It is used for skin resurfacing and treating a range of skin abnormalities. It stimulates blood and lymphatic flow to regenerate the epidermal cell structure thereby increasing the skin's elasticity & collagen resulting in skin that is more youthful looking. 2. Why do we need to exfoliate our skin? The key to healthy skin is a healthy skin cell. Due to every day factors such as stress, sun damage, air pollution, smoking, and lack of sleep, our skin develops toxins that prevent healthy skin regeneration. With exfoliation we remove a small portion of the upper skin layer or epidermis. 3. How does it work? This gentle technique is performed with a jet of fine mineral crystals. These crystals are vacuumed across the skin to remove the dead and damaged skin cells and to stimulate the collagen beneath the surface of the skin thus creating better skin tone. 4. Is Microdermabrasion a new technology? No. It has been widely used in Western Europe since approximately 1986.In December 1996, the FDA issued the first clearance for the esthetic industry in the US and the devices were quickly adopted by estheticians as an additional means of deep exfoliation. 5. How often can I receive this treatment? It depends on the area and the type of skin being treated. To obtain the maximum result, we recommend a series of six treatments at least 10-14 days apart. Continued treatment may be needed every 4-6 weeks to retain the skin's status. 6. What type of skin can benefit from Microdermabrasion? Skin with Reduced Fine Lines, Brown Spots & Hyper pigmentation, Non-inflammatory Acne Scars, Enlarged Pores, Blackheads, Stretch Marks, and Chickenpox Scars; Aging Skin; Blemished Skin; Congested Skin; Devitalized Skin, Dull skin, Calluses, Thickened Skin. 7. How does this compare to other chemical Peels? Microdermabrasion is a safe, more effective alternative to the use of chemical acids. Since there is total control of the peeling depth, the results are more predictable and can be accomplished in gradual stages with no down time or redness. In most cases clients see immediate results with quicker recovery. 8. How does this compare with the traditional dermabrasion or Cosmetic Surgery? Dermabrasion often was painful for patients and in some cases may have resulted in negative effects such as unnatural skin texture, a risk of dispigmentation or scaring. A Microdermabrasion treatment requires no anesthetic for superficial abrasion. For deeper peeling, topical creams such an EMLA can be used prior to the treatment. All treatments are done on an outpatient basis. 9. Is this treatment painful? No. It is virtually painless; to some there is minimal discomfort 10. Who could perform this treatment? A licensed Esthetician or Medical Professional and in most states cosmetologists with advanced skin care training. 11. What are the crystals made of? Corundum crystal is known as aluminum oxide and bauxite which is non-allergic to most skin types. 12. How much does each treatment cost? A single treatment of the face & neck typically runs between 150 to 200 dollars. A series of six should be sold for the price of five. 13. How long does each treatment take? The procedure usually takes between 20 to 30 minutes. Your skin therapist may combine this treatment with a hydrating & rejuvenating mini facial for a total of one hour. 14. What areas of skin are mostly treated by Microdermabrasion? Face & neck , elbows & knees, hands & feet, shoulders, stretch marks on abdomen and hips. 15. What types of skin and skin color can be treated? All types of skin and skin color. 16. Can it remove a tattoo? Microdermabrasion in the esthetic setting was designed to remove superficial epidermis. Removing a tattoo’s absolutely requires removal of living tissue and the esthetic arena for these concerns is illegal. 17. What about pregnant women? Absolutely, Microdermabrasion is basically a mechanical exfoliation without risks of allergic reaction. There are no harmful chemicals or acids; the mineral crystal itself is found in nature and is of the purest form. 18. How soon will I see some improvement? You should see some positive results with even one single treatment. In many cases the results have been virtually miraculous. Lasting and more significant results are obtained with a series of six or more treatments. 19. Is the treatment safe? Yes. There are almost no side effects and little trauma to the skin. All tools that contact the treatment area are either disposable or sterilized and the entire treatment should be performed in a sterile environment by a licensed skin care specialist.   FACTS about Aluminum Oxide The chemical form of aluminum microdermabrasion crystals is Aluminum Oxide, a compound that is chemically inert. This, chemical inertness, means  the aluminum is very tightly bound to oxygen and is not soluble in water or plasma. Aluminum in this chemical form cannot ionize or become complexed with other chemical species, and so cannot become biologically active. Aluminum Oxide crystals have been the most commonly used abrasive agent for the last 20 years. Aluminum Oxide is the second hardest mineral after diamond. The irregular crystal shape makes them a more effective abrader. Aluminum oxide, being an inert material, causes no allergic or adverse reactions. It is non-toxic when ingested and is non-carcinogenic.   Is Aluminum Oxide Safe? Aluminum Oxide crystals are perfectly safe and non-toxic if ingested. They don't cause adverse skin reactions and they are non-carcinogenic. During the procedure your eyes are protected by special glasses, to prevent micro crystals from getting in your eyes. The special hand-piece used  with the Microdermabrasion machine  is designed to vacuum away all micro crystals released during treatment. Thus the chances of inhaling the Aluminum Oxide are quite slim. Aluminum Oxide is the highest oxidation state of aluminum and is essentially chemically inert when used in the Microdermabrasion unit. It is insoluble in water. Aluminum Oxide is “environmentally friendly” and allowed in landfills.     DISCLAIMER: NuDerm will not be held liable for the variety of possible results obtained from the use of any of our equipment.
