If you have a painful foot,I do not want to make an insert that holds the foot in that painful position. Instead, I have you step in a soft foam block that simulates the position of your foot as if your foot is floating in air in a relaxed position. The orthotics I make are semiflexible and not the rigid type that was designed decades ago. It is flexible enough for the foot to comfortably move through the gait cycle but still provde the necessary support to prevent arch collapse. Arch collapse causes many painful foot problems. HEEL PAIN was the most common problem I saw in my practice. Typically, my patients with heel pain or PLANTAR FASCIITIS had pain the first few steps in the morning and outside heel wear of the shoe. I also found that the left heel was commonly the first to be affected. My orthotics  work great for many foot problems besides heel pain-crooked toes, flat feet, lowback pain, burning and numbness of the feet as well as knee, hip and ankle pain.  Many patients experienced improved posture and increased upper body strength as a result of wearing orthotics made by me. I have not seen one orthotic seller mention the significance of the sex of the individual. We've all heard that men are from Mars and women are from Venus. Obviously that's not true but there are differences and my concern is with the feet. Womens feet are different in shape, size, different shoes are worn and the gait cycle of walking is different from that of a man. The heel is narrower in a women and as a result, the biomechanical forces are different. Women seem to develop more pain in the forefoot.
